We want to shout a big THANK YOU!!! to the Baldwin Station 4 firemen, including
Kamdun poses with his uncle, Fireman Drake Meister, who was kind enough to volunteer to speak with us today!
We had a great time learning about fire safety, the equpiment that firemen use, and what it takes to become one of these local heroes from Baldwin Station 4.
Mr. Meister demonstrated a fireman's gear and discussed the importance of each piece.
Mr. Meister taught us about the air tanks (called SCBA) that protect firemen from breathing in dangerou fumes...and make them sound a little like Darth Vader.
The full gear weights about 75 pounds when dry (and much more when wet). Firemen have to be in good shape to do their jobs! You can begin training to become a fireman (or firewoman) when you are 18.
Mr. Meister reminded us that even though a fireman may look scary in his gear, if you see him, then he is always there to help you! You shouldn't be afraid of firemen when you're in trouble!
