Linguistic Puzzle
Each student in the class will earn 15 points if any student can defend what part of a sentence "sailing" is in the sentence below. The student who identifies it will also get 50 bonus points added onto his/her lowest grade(s).
In January, just one day's sailing from the frozen continent, the Endurance became lodged in the thick, polar ice.
*Note: This one has the ELA teachers stumped.
Update: I emailed former editors and current college English professors, and I know the right answer now, but you still have to defend your choice.
