STEP 2: DESIGN YOUR SITE
Now that you know what type of game you want to create, we need to look at how to build it.
1. What websites will you use?
The internet is full of web-creation sites and you can use any site you like to create your game. Here's a peek at some good sites you may want to use. All of the sites below are free to use indefinitely.
Wix - This site and both of my games were created on www.wix.com. Wix allows a high degree of personalization (which I love), but it takes a little more technology know-how than sites like Weebly that are point and drag. Wix is a great site if you plan to password protect your levels to keep kids from reading ahead before they've leveled up. You can also edit how your website looks on mobile devices.
Weebly - Weebly.com is a good site for teachers who aren't as comfortable creating webpages. Users click on what they want, such as a text box, and then drag it onto the page. You cannot add passwords to your pages.
Yola - Yola.com is a site I have not personally used before, but you may want to check it out and see if it fits your needs.
Website - Website.com is a site that I have not personally used before. It appears to be free, but I do not guarentee it. You may want to check it out to see if it fits your needs.
Once you choose a website to create your game, go ahead and begin building your template. Think back to your responses in Step 1, especially your theme, as you work.
May I Use Your Site?
If you would like a copy of my game to use as your template, I would be happy to share. Create an account on Wix.com and email me the request. Be sure to specify which site you want to use. The only thing I ask is that you give me credit in the footer for the work that I have done - especially the story.
